Strawberry Smoothie

This recipe is a good one to share with your kids and is sooo refreshing on hot summer days.

1 cup strawberries ( fresh or frozen)
1 cup ice
1 cup (8 ounce container) low fat vanilla yogart
1cup 1% milk
vanilla (to taste)
sugar (to taste - some use applesauce instead of sugar)

BLEND for about 2 min and serve.

46 calories in a 1 cup serving. 0.4 g total fat. 0 g saturated fat. 0 g trans fat. 0 mg cholesterol. 1 mg sodium. 11 g total carbohydrates. 3 g dietary fiber. 7 g sugar. 0 g protein. 0.3% Vitamin A, 2% calcium, 3% Iron. 141% Vitamin C - more than orange juice

Health Benefits:

Strawberries have higher levels of vitamin C, folate, fiber and potassium than other fruits like bananas, apples and oranges. A recent study by Dr. Gene Spiller, has shown that eating one serving (8-10 strawberries) a day can significantly decrease blood pressure which may significantly decrease heart disease. Strawberries have phytochemicals that may help reduce the risk of certain cancers, rheumatoid arthritis and enhance memory function.
